Jason M. Flamos

A USA 829 Lighting Designer based out of northern New Jersey specializing in Theater, Dance, Musicals, and Opera. Jason earned his MFA in Lighting Design in 2015 from Rutgers Mason Gross after accomplishing his BFA in Production Lighting Design from Montclair State University in 2010.

Jason was the Lighting Supervisor and Production manager for 10 Hairy Legs Dance Company. He is the current lighting supervisor for American Repertory Ballet and has worked with Parsons Dance, Jose Limon, Yin Yue, and Pascal Rioult as a Lighting Supervisor.

Jason is happy to call many NJ theaters his home, frequently worked with venues include; Paper Mill Playhouse, Shakespeare Theater NJ, George Street Playhouse, Mile Square Theater, The State Theater, NJPAC, Bergen PAC, Two River Theater.

“I believe lighting plays a critical part in telling the story and evoking an emotion from the audience. You have these heightened moments in theater that needs to be supported by all the design elements, from the type of button on the actors jacket, to the environment created by the scenic design, to the type of instrument at a specific angle creating a particular look that enhances and lifts the action. Work to serve the play and serve the text. Work to create an atmosphere for the world to live in. Work so that the audience connects and feels something while they watch in quiet anticipation.”

'“My approach to design is a lot like my approach to photography, a lot is about composition. When designing the lighting for a show, I tend to think of each cue as a photograph. Each cue a picture that generates focus, it allows the eye to be drawn to a specific place, to show the audience what is important. Each photo tells a story, and so should each cue.”
